First!

WHAT WE DID WRONG AND HOW WE WILL FIX IT!

The Kickstarter for PEGS was not successfully funded but work on them is far from over. We identified many mistakes on our part in marketing and product design that we plan to fix on the next go round. This blog will be dedicated to showing off progress of the product redesign and is intended to be interactive. We want your feedback every step of the way so we can build the glasses you want. Subscribe and share so you don't miss a thing.

WARNING SCIENCE CONTENT

Some of the information post here will be very technical but we will strive to give you a higher level explanation of it (dumb it down). If you don't know anything about electronics, embedded system design, PCB layout, computer programming, design for manufacturing or a wealth of other geeky content that will be covered here this will be a great resource for learning some of those concepts.

WHATS TO COME

We will leave you with a list of improvements we will be implementing in the coming weeks.
  • More and brighter LEDs
  • Auto adjust LED brightness depending on ambient light
  • PC software to create and upload custom patterns
  • On-board microphone with music visualizations
  • Rechargeable batteries
  • Make them less ugly :)
  • Plastic frame for comfort and style
  • Open source
Got anything to suggest? Please leave it in the comments!

  1. How about making sure they are compatible with users how have to also wear corrective glasses under/behind the PEGS. I know its possible because I have another set from a different (older) Kickstarter that fits quite well on top of my glasses....I just prefer the capabilities of where you guys were (hence backing the project) and ARE heading based on this blog post. Can't wait for the campaign reboot!

    1. Of course! And thanks for the suggestion. We have a new member on our team who wears contacts/glasses so testing their fit will be easy.

    2. Also what about water resistance? Will it be splash proof? Some friends after some beers.... are just pretty... lost sometimes :p and they throw liquids all over the place xD

    3. The current unprotected model is splash proof, ie it won't be destroyed by water shorting anything out. If they are really wet they will stop working temporarily, you just need to dry them off. We are looking into something called conformal coating that we will cover the front of the PCB in a hard clear coating. This will make them almost completely waterproof and protect the components from damage. We will go over conformal coating in a future post :)

  2. Amazing! Also remember, it's mostly alcoholics which are used on parties, not water ;) (Sugar is a killer for most devices)

    1. The conformal coating should protect against sugar water :) As crazy as it sounds if your electronics die from exposure to sugar water you can try removing the batteries and run things through the dish washer (remove the case and get down to bare PCB or as much as possible). Then dry it overnight in rice.
